Step with us inside the TV ONE Ice Dome and be transported to a world of winter wonderment in this highlight of the Christchurch Arts Festival. Christchurch’s bold new movable landmark is a world-class venue that will see Christchurch join the ranks of the great winter festival cities. It is the ideal home to the ice rink that will be at the very heart of the Festival WinterGarden.

 Public Skating

The rink is open to skaters of all ages and abilities. Skate hire is included in the price of admission; we have a range of skate sizes available.

 To guarantee that you have the most enjoyable experience possible, we advise that you wear warm thick socks; gloves; comfortable warm clothing (layers are a great idea); beanie.

 Performances and Demonstrations

If you're not so keen to get on the ice, there will also be a range of performances and demonstrations to enjoy.

 Mr Birdbrain will perform the only juggling act on ice skates in the country: a full juggling routine including 3 clubs, diabolo and up to seven rings. Mr Birdbrain will perform during each 10.00 -12.00pm session throughout the Festival, and during the 1.00-3.00pm session on Saturdays and Sundays.

 There will be exciting and colourful figure skating demonstrations at 10am, 12.30pm and 7pm each day, courtesy of the Alpine Ice skating community http://www.alpineice.co.nz/home

Coaching

Experienced skate coaches can provide an introductory lesson suitable for beginner skaters, designed to help them feel confident and have fun on the ice.

 Coaching sessions are booked in 60-min blocks, either privately (1-2 people), semi-privately (groups of 3-4), or for larger groups (20-30) such as school groups or social clubs. Skate coaching can be booked for 9.30-10.30am (Mon, Wed, Fri) or 12.00-1.00pm (Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri).

Skate coaching is subject to coach availability and must be booked in advance. Costs will vary according to the number of people participating. Email melanie@artsfestival.co.nz for more information.

The Ticket Office is situated beside the TVONE Ice Dome, and tickets can be purchased from there during opening times.
