Whitebaiters Never Lie

Whitebaiters Never Lie

A photographic exhibition developed by Murray Hedwig and Anita Peters over the last eighteen months as they documented whitebaiters through photographs and interviews.

The exhibition will be displayed in outdoor frames on Worcester Boulevard from McDougall Gallery, Canterbury Museum through to Cathedral Square.

“It is clear to us that there is a need to capture stories of the older characters still fishing before the chance is lost, and with it is lost some of the important history of the river. This particular pastime was not only a source of supplementary food for early settlers, but was also always a prized article of food among Maori.”
