Julia Deans is known primarily as frontwoman of Fur Patrol. The possessor of one of modern rock's most interesting voices, Deans is able to shift elegantly between soaring falsetto and assured growl. She won the Best Female Vocal Award in the NZ Music Awards in 2001, and her hit song Lydia was the most played song on NZ radio for a year.

In her Christchurch Arts Festival performance she will be taking her voice for a prowl with an 8-piece band, exploring some of her new solo material and venturing further from her usual path to put a new twist on a selection of songs by her hero, the inimitable David Bowie.
