The G Major sonata has been described as one of the rare serene sonatas Schubert wrote and Drei Klavierstücke, or Three Piano Pieces was written just six months before his early death.

Michael Houstoun is New Zealand’s leading classical pianist and a major contributor to this year’s Festival — as a soloist for the NZSO, as duet player with Sarah Watkins for the Maurice Till Memorial Concert, and as pianist in the play Rita and Douglas.
